My name is Jose Caldera and I am from Saint Louis, MO. As a Nicaraguan American, from a large city, venturing into mid Missouri seemed like it would be a culture shock, but I was pleasantly surprised at how welcoming Columbia, Mo was. One of my greatest concerns was that I would be moving to a boring town that would kill my youthful soul. How wrong I was. The downtown provided me with more than enough entertainment to help me survive my first year of law school. However, the reason I chose Mizzou Law over my other offers was because this was one of the few places that showed a REAL commitment to aiding historically disadvantaged groups.
Throughout my academic career I have always been surrounded by diverse student bodies, so it is natural that when it came time for my law school choice I would expect nothing less. Mizzou Law has shown a serious dedication to diversity amongst its students and faculty, a trait I value very much. This commitment was ultimately what won me over. The student body here resembles the changing face of our nation, and the outreach strategies of the law school will lead to a great experience for future law students. I cannot stress enough how wonderful this school is and how fabulous the people are here. Frankly, if you value diversity, academic rigor, or community there really is no other choice than the University Of Missouri School Of Law.
