Hi! My name is Carolyn and I am a 3L here at Mizzou. I am a non-traditional, out-of-state student. My husband and I decided to move to Missouri from Maryland because we were so impressed with the law school and with Columbia. I graduated from the University of Maryland with an English degree and worked for the National Institutes of Health prior to going to law school.
We looked in many, many places and visited several campuses before deciding that MU was the right fit for us. The first time that we got to the law school, we were sold. The people here are helpful and professional and the law school's curriculum is unparalleled in the state. In just the first year, we had the opportunity to write legal memos, appellate briefs, and to argue in a simulated Appellate Court setting. The faculty and staff are really involved with us and give freely of their time and expertise. It would be impossible to go through this law school without finding a mentor and a network of professionals who will be invaluable support in the years to come.
The town of Columbia is small to me, coming from the DC area, but is large enough to offer everything that we could possibly want, without all of the traffic. The cost of living is hard to beat and there are so many trails and parks to take our dog. I am so glad that I chose Mizzou and would be glad to talk with you about this very important decision.
