The MU School of Law offers a collegial environment, reinforced by a small student body and a low faculty-student ratio. The intimacy of this setting, coupled with reasonable cost, consistently high bar passage rates, a network of alumni around the globe and access to top scholars in the legal world, make MU Law one of the best values in the nation.
Join Dean Gary Myers and alumni and friends of the School of Law at the law school's oldest alumni tradition, Law Day, to be held on April 25-26, 2014.
One of the great traditions at the School of Law is the annual Law Day celebration.Originally, Law Day was an annual springtime event. A few years ago, it was decided to move the event to the fall to coincide with a home football game. That worked very well for years, as alumni were able to return to campus, visit with fellow alumni, faculty and students, enjoy the festivities on Saturday morning, and head over to Faurot Field for the regular one o’clock kickoff.
However, the success of the football program in recent years plus the move to the Southeastern Conference means that most – if not all – of the Tigers’ football games will be televised. Kickoff times for the televised games are almost always fluid up until a couple of weeks before the game. In recent years this has made organizing the multiple events of the Saturday of Law Day very difficult, and it was decided that Law Day would return to its roots as a springtime event.
Because of the timing, there will be no Law Day in fall 2013. Classes that would have planned a reunion for 2013 – classes ending in 3 or 8 – will plan reunions for the spring of 2014, along with the classes that already anticipated 2014 reunions (class years ending in 4 or 9).
In place of the fall Law Day tradition, the School of Law is starting something new – a tailgate held on September 7th before the Mizzou vs. University of Toledo football game.
In 2012, the Law Day and Class Reunions weekend was held September 14th and 15th in Columbia. The weekend began on Friday with the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon at The Club at Old Hawthorne, followed later by a cocktail reception hosted for the first time by Dean Gary Myers in Hulston Hall.
On Saturday, alumni and faculty were honored at an awards ceremony before guests attended a barbecue in the law school’s East Courtyard. Later Mizzou Law alumni watched the Tigers beat the Sun Devils of Arizona State University in a game that kicked off at 6 pm.
