Arbitration Awards (Part 6 – Labour Management Arbitration in Canada)

Arbitration Awards

In Canada, labour management arbitration awards are public by legislation. For example, under Canadian Federal jurisdiction, every arbitration order or decision shall be filed with the Minister of Labour and made available to the public.[1] Also, arbitrators may send awards to legal publishing companies and public access website services, such as CanLII,[2] a free public website with court, tribunal and arbitration decisions.

[1] CLC, s, 59, for a similar requirement, in Newfoundland and Labrador, an arbitrator is required to send a copy of the award to the Minister responsible for the Labour Relations Agency within 3 days after it is made, LRA NL, s. 88(4).
