2011 Attorney General’s Cup Tournament

It is once again time for an annual Missouri law school tradition – the Attorney General’s Cup Tournament.  This storied event dates back to 2010, when Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster (a distinguished Mizzou Law alumnus) invited each of the four law schools from the Great State of Missouri to send their respective two most elite mock trial teams to Jefferson City to compete against one another to determine superiority in trial advocacy in the Show-Me State.

As some members of last year’s team have graduated, there are a few spots open for new members on the MU team this year.  In order to fill these openings, the team will host a tryout next week, Monday, September 26, 2011, beginning at 6:00pm, in the Court Room.  For the tryout, participants will administer one cross examination of a witness lasting a maximum of five (5) minutes.  Later that night, BOA will announce the team.

All are welcome to participate, as we are looking for the most talented students in trial advocacy.  Students, who have a mock trial background, have taken trial practice or a clinic or who excel at public speaking are encouraged to tryout.

Please keep in mind that this is NOT the BOA mock trial competition that will be held second semester.  The Attorney General’s Cup Tournament is entirely separate.  The BOA mock trial competition will go on as scheduled after winter break.

The problem and instructions are listed in the Course Materials section on a TWEN page called BOA 2011.  You may have to add it as a class on TWEN.  Also on the TWEN site, you will find a sign-up sheet and short questionnaire.  Please sign up for the earliest time that you are available and bring the questionnaire with you to your tryout.

The tournament will be held on October 20-21, 2011, in Jefferson City, Missouri.  Note that these dates are a Thursday and Friday (as determined by the AG Cup Committee).  We hope that you may be able to make arrangements with professors to make up any missed class time – if you are not able to do so, please do not attend the tryouts.

If you may have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call BOA Chair Chirag Shah at cksty8@mail.missouri.edu.

Best wishes to all of the competitors!
