1Ls & 2Ls: Request for Witnesses for Pre-Trial Litigation

We would like to invite all you to assist Professors Henson and Kempton and the BOA in serving as a witness for the class on pre-trial litigation.

Each year, the pre-trial litigation classes simulate a firsthand experience in the steps leading to trial. Among writing pleadings and motion and serving opposing counsel with discovery requests, students are required to depose two witnesses in preparation for trial.

This is where you come in. As 1Ls and 2Ls, we are asking you to serve as these witnesses who will be deposed by the pre-trial litigation students. The current case involves an automobile accident, in which one party is suing another for damages suffered as a result of the incident. There are two witnesses, the Plaintiff, Stallins, and the defendant, Martin. Each witness will be called to testify in a deposition and answer questions from plaintiff and defense counsel. To participate, you will need to sign up on the sheets posted to the table outside of the BOA office. We are creating a pool from which students in the pre-trial lit class can contact you to set a time that works for everyone’s’ schedules. Note that all of the depositions will take place in the law school. The deadline to sign up will be October 5, 2011 at 11:50pm.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding about the the litigation process and and help you fellow students. It will also serve you VERY WELL on your applications for BOA candidacy or membership next year.

The entire process will take about two hours of your time. One hour on your own to read the materials and One hour to serve as a witness. Depositions will take place from October 11-21, 2011. Students in the pre-trial class will contact you to set up a time that will work for everyone’s’ schedules.

If you may have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We truly appreciate your assistance and efforts!
