Client Counseling Competition

The 2015 Client Counseling competition will be held from October 12-14. If you are interested in participating, please sign up outside of the BOA office. Even if you do not have a partner, sign up individually and BOA will pair you with someone. The competition is limited to the first 15 teams that sign up.   Some things about the Competition: · It’s the LAST competition of the semester!! · It’s very easy and requires little to no prep work. · A great way to earn BOA points. · If you play the role of the client, you get free dinner! The Client Counseling Competition simulates the moment a potential client walks into your law firm and has a legal problem for you to address. This competition requires no legal knowledge in a certain area. Two-member teams of students acting as attorneys interview the client and provide a preliminary assessment of the client’s case. BOA is in need of volunteers to play the role of clients and bailiffs (BOA points included). Students interested in volunteering as either a client or bailiff can sign up outside the BOA office. There will be more information about the competition at the Informational Meeting on Monday, October, 5th at 1pm in Room 5. We hope to see you...

Judging Information for 2015 Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition

Upcoming Opportunity: 2015 Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition On behalf of the Mizzou Law Board of Advocates, we invite you to serve as a judge in the 2015 Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition. The competition will take place Monday, August 24th through Wednesday, August 26th, and you may choose to join us for one, two, or all three evenings. Judges will be awarded 4.2 hours of general CLE credit per night. On each night of the competition, judges should plan to arrive by 6:30 p.m. to enjoy a complimentary dinner and brief judges’ meeting, followed by the competition from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Open to 2L and 3L students, the Polsinelli Fall Moot Court Competition simulates the steps involved in the appellate process. Students write a brief on a given problem over the summer and then present their arguments during the competition. Lawyers from around the community will serve as the appellate judges, critiquing the participants and offering constructive feedback. Each student will compete at least twice, arguing once on-brief and once off-brief. After the second round, the top 12 advocates will compete in the semi-final round on Wednesday, August 24th. The top 6 advocates will advance to the final round on September 2nd and will present their arguments in Jefferson City before a panel comprised of current and former Missouri Supreme Court Judges. At the conclusion of the final round, a Top Oral Advocate and a Top Appellate Brief will be chosen. Additionally, all finalists will become members of the University of Missouri’s Moot Court Team. Volunteer judges provide an invaluable service to the Board of Advocates, both in the administration of competitions and, more importantly, in the development of the next generation of legal advocates. Volunteers from all over the legal spectrum draw upon a diverse range of knowledge and expertise, offering participants an eclectic insight into advocacy. The Board of Advocates is deeply grateful for the strong network of local attorneys and alumni willing to serve the organization and the students of Mizzou Law.
