Most legal employers are reputable and reliable, but the Career Development Office is not in a position to guarantee the professional standing of individual law firms, attorneys, companies or other employers posting position notices.   • 11/3/09: St. Louis County seeks an Associate Attorney. The selected applicant will perform professional legal work including research and litigation under the direction of a professional supervisor as follows: 1) search for, interpret and apply laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of briefs, pleadings, petitions and other legal papers in connection with suits, trials and other proceedings; 2) litigate cases including appearances on prehearing conferences, pre-trial discoveries, and subpoenas witnesses and records; prepare and analyze cases and review evidence and prepares briefs and memoranda for trial and appellate court; 3) maintain records of legal cases and briefs; review legal periodicals to keep abreast of recent law; 4) answer questions from private citizens with respect to State and County law; 5) conduct legal research, interpret and apply laws, court decisions and other legal authorities on points of law involved in the preparation of opinions on legal issues regarding St. Louis County or applications of state and federal law; 6) attempt to secure injunctions; research, interpret and apply statutory and decisional law in the preparation of opinions and legal memoranda relating to issues pertaining to the County and County Departments; 7) prepare draft legislation for County Council and State Legislature pertaining to the County; 8) prepare deeds, indentures, easements, leases, petitions for vacation, escrows and sales contracts relating to County land and business; 9) prepare and review bids, requests for proposals and contracts relating to County business; 10) draft and review administrative rules and regulations; researches, interpret and apply statutory and decisional law in the preparation of pleadings and filings before trial courts and Federal, State, County and other local agencies; 11) issue warrants and prosecutes County ordinance violations; 12) participate as plaintiff or defense attorney in litigation of certain cases in Associate Circuit and Circuit Court, including pre-trial discovery with respect to cases involving the County and County officials; participates as plaintiff or defense attorney in hearings before various Federal, State, County and other local administrative tribunals, boards and commissions; 13) review and respond to subpoenas served on County officials; 14) review proposed personnel actions; and 15) perform related work as required. Applicants must have JD from accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in MO. This position is responsible for Municipal Court dockets and will require working some evenings.   • 10/30/09: Gateway Legal Services, Inc. is currently interviewing for one entry-level attorney position in its St. Louis office. Gateway Legal Services, Inc., is an innovative legal aid program located in St. Louis and Kansas City. Like other legal aid programs, Gateway is not-for-profit and tax-exempt Unlike other Missouri legal aid programs, Gateway does not accept government funding and does not seek other kinds of subsidy funding. The new attorney will be given a great deal of responsibility very quickly. Through transfers of existing cases and acceptance of new ones, the attorney will soon be handling a large caseload of SSI and Social Security disability cases, depending on experience. A Field Counsel will represent the company and its policyholders in civil litigation and workers' compensation matters involving claims for money damages or compensation for personal injury or property damage of a moderate value with moderately complex legal issues.   • 9/23/09: Ensz & Jester is seeking an Associate to become a part of a busy litigation and business practice. Litigation experience is preferred, but not required. The litigation practice involves the defense of governmental liability actions, employment practices claims, and general tort and commercial litigation.
