LL.M. PROGRAM ACCEPTS FIFTEEN STUDENTS FOR FALL 2006
The LL.M. Admissions Committee has accepted 15 students for next year’s class. As usual, the program attracted a very exciting and diverse group of applicants. The Committee will continue to review applications that submitted by June 30. If you know anyone who might be interested in applying – either full-time or part-time – please let them know. REUBEN PARTICIPATES IN GLOBAL ISSUES FORUM
Prof. Richard Reuben participated in the University of Missouri-Columbia Chancellor’s Global Issues Forum on Wed., April 12 where they raised tough questions about journalistic practices. MISSOURI WAS PROMINENT AT ABA DISPUTE RESOLUTION CONFERENCE
Many MU students, alumni, and faculty attended the ABA’s eighth annual conference, which took place in Atlanta, April 6-8.  Prof. Philip Harter was a presenter in “Consensus vs. Collaboration: Is There a Difference in Negotiated Rulemaking?”  Prof. John Lande presented in two panels: “How Mediator Styles and Written Standards of Conduct Create Chaos for the Practicing Mediator” and “The Vanishing Trial and Dispute Resolution.” Prof. Richard Reuben was a panelist in the Legal Educators’ Colloquium session “Neutrality and Impartiality:  How Much is Enough?”  Prof. Leonard Riskin participated in “A Dialogue with Deep Thinkers in the Dispute Resolution Field.” MU students, alumni, and faculty attending the conference included Prof. Jim Levin, Paul Ladehoff, Pritt Akutekha (LLM ’06), Hassan Elkhalil (LLM ’03), Nivedita Chowdary Gutta (LLM ’'06), Lynn Malley (JD ’84, LLM ’03), Koschina Marshall (LLM ’06), Salvador Panga Jr. (LLM ’01), Jim Reeves (LLM ’04), Sukh Singh (LLM ’06),  Gil Tabucanon (LLM ’06), Ongmu Tshering (LLM ’06), and Alyson Carrel (JD ’04), who was one of the national coordinators of the Representation in Mediation Competition. Faculty “alumni” at the conference included Chris Guthrie from Vanderbilt University who participated in “Using Psychology to Get the Deal Done;” Bobbi McAdoo from Hamline University who participated in “Justice and ADR: Are Mediation, Arbitration and Other ADR Processes Effectuating Justice?”, Jean Sternlight from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, who participated in two panels: “Update on Class Action Arbitrations and the Controversy Over Class Action Waivers” and a session at the Legal Educators’ Colloquium, “Justice and ADR: Are Mediation, Arbitration and Other ADR Processes Effectuating Justice?” MU Law alumni presenters included John R. Phillips (JD ’71), Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin, Kansas City, MO, “Mediating WITH the Insurance Industry: Techniques for Successful Negotiation,” and “Electronic Discovery and Evidence: The New Battleground in Arbitration As Well As Litigation.” Paula Young (LLM ’03), Appalachian School of Law, was a panelist for “Take it or Leave it. Lump it or Grieve it: Designing Mediator Complaint Systems that Protect Mediators, Unhappy Parties, Attorneys, Courts, the Process, and Field.” The LLM Program sponsored a reunion dinner, which was quite a hit.  Next year’s conference will be April 25-28, 2007, in Washington, DC.

FLAVIA PEPINO WELCOMES SON

PAULA YOUNG PUBLISHES ARTICLE ON ROLE OF LAWYERS IN MEDIATION
Paula Young (’03) published an article entitled “The Who of Mediation - Part III:  Lawyers in the Mix” on mediate.com at http://www.mediate.com/articles/young17.cfm in which she offers detailed suggestions for lawyers representing clients in mediation.

RENOWNED MEDITATION TEACHER TO HOLD RETREATS
APRIL 21-23, COLUMBIA , MO
Gina Sharpe, renowned full-time meditation teacher, will be holding two meditation retreats April 21-23 in Columbia. On April 21, the People of Color Retreat will be held at the Black Culture Center on the MU campus.
