CYNTHIA ALKON TO PRESENT PAPER AT CONFERENCE IN GERMANY
Cynthia Alkon (LL.M. '02) will present a paper at the upcoming Law and Society Conference in Berlin, Germany from July 24-29. The paper, entitled “Plea Bargaining: Are We Importing a Bad Idea to Troubled Criminal Justice Systems,” looks at U.S. rule of law assistance programs that encourage or assist in the introduction of plea negotiations or abbreviated trials into criminal justice systems that do not have these procedures. Cynthia also will moderate two conference sessions: “Obstacles to Successful Transition in Eastern Europe and Elsewhere” and “Coping with Multiple Levels of Governance in Law and Development: From Regionalism to Federalism to Decentralization in Cities.” In addition, she will moderate and act as discussant for “International Criminal Courts: Past and Future.”
