Memphis 13: Film and Discussion

February 16 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The Memphis 13 is a documentary film (35 minutes) sharing the stories of the first graders who desegregated schools in Memphis in 1961. Using interviews with the families of all 13 students, the film provides a glimpse into the experiences of some of the Civil Rights Movement’s youngest pioneers and the impact of that time on their lives.

The screening will be accompanied by a discussion with one of the pioneering students as well as with the film’s director, Daniel Kiel, a professor at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.
