The New Science Behind Criminal Sentencing – Professor Steve Chaneson

March 7 @ 1:00 pm - 1:50 pm

Professor Steve Chanenson from Villanova will present on “The New Science Behind Criminal Sentencing.”  It will address the rising importance of evidence-based practices as determinants of both the sentences imposed by judges and the release decisions made by parole authorities.  This is the cutting-edge of sentencing reform in America.

Professor Chaneson is one of the country’s leading experts on criminal sentencing.  He has not only written extensively in the field, but was for many years the Chair of the Pennsylvania Sentencing Commission, a group that plays a big role in the development of Pennsylvania criminal law. Professor Chaneson was a Supreme Court clerk for Justice Brennan and Justice Souter, an associate at Jenner & Block in Chicago, and an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago.  And, he’s a very funny guy.
