Adjunct Faculty
In addition to our permanent faculty, we ask a handful of highly qualified Adjunct Professors to lend us (and you) their expertise each year. Next year, the following Adjunct Professors will teach 2l/3l courses:
- Alana Barragan-Scott
Alana Barragan-Scott rejoins the Legal Writing faculty after a one year absence. A 1990 graduate of the School of Law, Ms. Barragan-Scott is an deputy attorney general in the office of the Missouri Attorney General. In 2002, she was a co-winner, with Adjunct Professor Jim Layton, of one of four awards for best briefs filed by a state attorney general with the United States Supreme Court.
- Hon. Duane Benton
Judge Duane Benton, who currently sits on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, received his B.A. summa cum laude from Northwestern, an M.A. from Memphis, a J.D. from Yale, and an LL.M. from the University of Virginia. Judge Benton will co-teach Appellate Advocacy with Professor Thompson (see below) in Winter 2008.
- Debbie Daniels
Debbie Daniels, a long-time Adjunct Professor at MU Law School, holds an A.A. from Columbia College, a B.A./B.S. from MU, and her J.D. from MU. Professor Daniels will teach Moot Court II in Fall 2007 and Moot Court I in Winter 2008.
- Deborah J. Doxee
Dr. Doxee is a 1988 graduate of the School of Law who also holds both an MA and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has served as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology here at the University. She is the author or co-author of numerous articles in counseling psychology. She rejoined the Adjunct faculty in 2007 to co-teach the course in Mental Disability and the Law.
- Bruce Harry, MD
Dr. Harry rejoined the Adjunct faculty in 2007 and co-teaches the course on Mental Disability and the Law. He has both his bachelor’s and medical degree from the University of Missouri. He has served as a Lecturer and Instructor in Psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School and presently serves as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is a member of the American College of Psychiatrists and the American Academy of Forensic Scientists. His major research interests include: “Serial Killers and Health Care, Diagnosis and Treatment of Violent Behavior Among Mentally Disordered Persons, and Violence and Crime Among Mentally Disordered Persons.”
- Jim Layton
Jim Layton, Missouri Solicitor General and Adjunct Professor of Law, received his BS cum laude (1977) and JD magna cum laude (1982) from Brigham Young University. Professor Layton will teach State Constitutional Law in Winter 2008.
- Lori Levine
Lori Levine is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. A 1977 honors graduate of the UMKC law school, Ms. Levine practices in Jefferson City. She has been chair of the Missouri Bar Family Law Section and was the first recipient of the Missouri Bar Family Law Practitioner of the Year Award in 2003. She served on and was President of the State Board of Law Examiners and has served as a consultant and teacher of Family Law for the National Conference of Bar Examiners. She joins the law school’s adjunct faculty to teach Family Law in the winter semester.
- Karl A. Menninger, II
Karl Menninger rejoined the adjunct faculty in 2007. A graduate of the Washburn School of Law, Menninger is the Hearings Administrator for the Missouri Department of Mental Health. He is a Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the MU College of Medicine. He is the co-author of a book on Sexuality Law and the Developmentally Disabled person and the author of numerous articles at the junction of law and psychiatry. He co-teaches our course in Mental Disability and the Law.
- Hon. Leslie Schneider
Judge Leslie Schneider is an Associate Circuit Judge in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit here in Boone County. Prior to that, she was a partner in a Columbia law firm and Municipal Court Judge in Columbia. She is a former deputy attorney general with the State of Missouri. Judge Schneider is a 1979 graduate of the MU School of Law. A large portion of her private practice was devoted to Family Law. She will join the law school’s adjunct faculty to teach Family Law in the winter semester.
- Ray Phillips
Ray Phillips, Adjunct Professor of Law, received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina and his J.D. and LL.M. from Emory University. Formerly a member of the University of Georgia Law Faculty, Professor Phillips will teach Bankruptcy in Fall, 2007 and Insurance Law in Winter, 2008.
- Ron Smull
Ron Smull, a long-time Adjunct Professor at MU Law School, holds his B.A. and J.D. from the University of Missouri. Professor Smull returns to the Law School to teach Drafting Legal Instruments in Winter 2008.
- Bill Thompson
Bill Thompson, counsel to the Missouri Supreme Court, holds a B.S. from Drake University and a J.D. from MU. Professor Thompson will co-teach Appellate Advocacy with Judge Duane Benton (see above) during Winter 2008.
- Jayne Woods
Ms. Woods returns to the law school to teach in our Legal Writing program. A 2005 graduate of the School of Law, Ms. Woods was a notes and comments editor on the Law Review. She presently serves as a Missouri Assistant Attorney General working on Criminal appeals and has written more than 100 appellate briefs in the Missouri courts and has argued numerous cases before the Missouri courts of appeal and Supreme Court.
