TOPICS: any aspect of Securities law; Securities arbitration; The Federal Arbitration Act, Title 9, US Code, Section 1-14; or FINRA Code of Arbitration, effective April 16, 2007 and any changes or proposed changes to that Code.  The writing can be based in theory or practice, but should ultimately advocate a position on the topic area chosen.

ELIGIBILITY: all students who attend a law school in the United States

TOPIC: This year’s prompt involves new legal opinions on the landmark caseRoe v. Wade.

AWARD:

• The first-place author will be awarded $1000, and the winning entry will be published in Human Life Review.
• The second-place author will be awarded $750.
• The third-place author will be awarded $500.
• In addition, the first-, second-, and third-place authors will all be recognized at the Advocates for Life reception in January 2014.

ELIGIBILITY: This contest is open to law students at ABA-accredited law schools who graduate in the spring of 2013 or later.  This contest is open to individuals and to pairs.

FORMAT:

• Entries should use 12-point Times New Roman font, be double spaced, and have one-inch margins.
• Please include a cover page which states your name, school, and month and year of graduation.
• The maximum word count, without footnotes, is 10,000 words. Shorter entries are strongly encouraged.
• Citations must be formatted according to the Bluebook.

JUDGING CRITERIA: Judges will be selected from the legal academy and the pro-life bar.  Judges will judge submissions on scholarly excellence and inspirational tone.

SUMBISSION: Entries must be submitted as a Microsoft Word documentto advocates@aul.org no later than 11:59pm on September 20, 2013.
