Class Guidelines

(note similarity to mediation process)
Encourage everyone’s participation

Give others the time and space to say what they need to say

Listen for understanding

Be open to and respectful of others’ opinions, perspectives, and worldviews
(This is not the same as being non-judgmental. Suspending judgment would be more accurate.)

Feel free to disagree and be sensitive to and accept others’ feelings and views

Make the class a safe place to take risks

  • Do not make personal attacks; focus on issues rather than individuals
  • Do not unduly interpret others’ opinions as personal attacks

Check if continued discussion on a point is useful / preferred over other options
Respect confidentiality; if in doubt, don’t repeat information without consent

Enjoy learning together
