Pro Bono Month is an annual event that coincides with National Pro Bono Week October 22 – 26. This October’s celebration is extra special as students will be able to log clinic hours towards a certificate of recognition in the new Pro Bono Program. This month we will be co-sponsoring two clinics with Mid-Missouri Legal Services. Check out the agenda of activities on the blog.
On Wednesday, October 2nd, another special Pro Bono speaker will be in Room 6 (Note the room change) at 1:00 pm. Amy Lorenz-Moser ’00, a product liability lawyer with Armstrong Teasdale, will talk about her Post-Trial Criminal pro bono work. Ms. Lorenz-Moser has dedicated her pro bono time to a cause that is near and dear to her heart, helping free battered women from imprisonment for killing their abusers. Her interest in this area began here at Mizzou Law in the Domestic Violence Clinic. Ms. Lorenz-Moser was recently featured in the Mizzou Alumni Association newsletter, Sept. 2013 – Freedom fighter. Don’t miss the chance to hear her talk about her experiences! Professional perspective or career component credit will be offered. Pizza will be provided, so please RSVP through Symplicity.
Also, on Wednesday, October 2nd at 1:00 in room 4, Captain Landon Wedermyer from the US Air Force Judge Advocate General (JAG) will be on campus for an Informational Session that will assist you in learning more about this competitive program. The following Monday, check out “Life of a Lawyer” which is a series that brings attorneys to the law school to meet with students in small, informal settings. The attorneys typically talk about their path to and in the profession and respond to questions from students. It also serves as a good opportunity to network. Join us Monday, October 7th at 1:00 in room 107 for Shakespeare’s pizza and a lively discussion with Tyler Thompson, ’07, attorney at Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard in St. Louis, MO. His main practice areas include product liability, personal injury, and insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. An RSVP is required!
