This week at Mizzou Law we have many interesting activities. Join us at 1:00 on Monday, October 7th in room 107 for Shakespeare’s pizza and a lively discussion with Tyler Thompson, ’07, attorney at Sandberg Phoenix & Von Gontard in St. Louis, MO. His main practice areas include product liability, personal injury, and insurance coverage and bad faith litigation. The “Life of a Lawyer” series, of which Mr. Thompson is a part, is an opportunity to network with an alum in a small group setting and to learn more about a specific practice area. Seating is limited to twelve students, so be sure to RSVP early for any of the “Life of a Lawyer” events.
On Wednesday, October 9th, join members of the Office of Career Development for the monthly Boone County Bar Association (BCBA) lunch and CLE program on Oct. 9 (11:30-1:00) at Bleu. The CLE program will be presented by Professors Lambert, Crouch, Dessem, and Josh Hawley, on the topic of “1L Black Letter Law.” In addition to the fantastic educational experience, this is a wonderful networking opportunity for law students. Many local attorneys attend, and you will have a few moments to visit at your table prior to and following the program. It is important to RSVP as the program is limited to four students. Participants will meet in room 103 at 11:10 to walk together to the restaurant Bleu. The dress for the event is professional dress. Please contact Kate Busch for more information.
Also on Wednesday, October 9th at 1:00 in room 3, the Marine JAG Program will be on campus. Captain Webber will conduct an Information Session to explain the the application process and benefits of the Marine JAG program to interested students. Pizza will be served, so a RSVP is required. Career Component credit will also be offered. If you think you may be interested in also participating in an Informational Interview, which will be held after the Session, check the OCI schedule to sign up.
Wednesday evening (October 9th) from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Courtroom be sure to attend “It Happens: Sexual Harassment in the Legal Profession”. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of Career Development, Student Life and the Women’s Law Association. The Program will consist of a panel presentation addressing sexual harrassment in the legal profession presented by Dean Lisa Key and Professors Michelle Cecil, Carli Conklin, Martha Dragich, Rigel Oliveri, Stacie Strong, and Chris Wells. Please RSVP through Symplicity as a light dinner will be provided. Don’t miss this important discussion!
On Monday, October 14th at 1:00 in the Courtroom, be sure to RSVP for the Floyd R. Gibson Judicial Clerkship Forum through Symplicity. This annual event is an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of how to apply for Judicial Clerkships from current judges. A brief reception with refreshments will follow the program in the Courtroom. Professional Perspectives and Career Component credit will be available!
