If you are getting ready to dig into the OCI schedules and applications for the fall, be sure to check out the information below regarding deadlines and how to apply.  Also, please read the OCI Guide that is posted on the Career Development TWEN page.

  • You can already view OCI employers by selecting the OCI tab on Symplicity.  Search through each “session” (there are 5 total) to see the list of employers currently scheduled.  We will continue to add employers throughout January and February, so be sure to check this regularly.
  • Important dates for each session will be listed on the right side of the screen with each session.
  • The employer, location, and interview dates (or “Resume Collection”) will be posted towards the bottom of the page for each session.
  • Beginning Jan. 10, you will be able to start “bidding” (applying) for different employers.  This means you can start applying for interviews.  To do this, find the employer you wish to bid on and click on the link to their OCI page for information.  You will see information about the employer, their hiring criteria, etc.  You should also see a button to bid on the employer and to submit your application materials.  Be sure to check each employer in each session; also, some employers are simply collecting resumes and intend to schedule their own interviews.  Make sure you are aware of this.
  • Please pay attention to the hiring criteria listed.  Employers adhere to their criteria very closely, and they will become frustrated if they receive numerous applications from applicants outside their criteria.  If you are on the border of qualifying, however, please talk to your career counselor about the possibility of applying.
  • Do not be discouraged if you do not fit the hiring criteria for specific positions.  Keep in mind a very limited number of 1L students will secure summer employment through OCI.  Nearly all 1Ls, however, will end up securing some form of legal employment before the semester ends.  If you work hard and stay on top of networking and applying, you will be in good shape!
  • Each session has its own deadline schedule, but here is a quick overview of the application deadlines and interview sign-up period for each session:
    • Session 1 (interviews Feb. 10-14): Bidding ends Jan. 17, sign-ups start Jan. 31
    • Session 2 (interviews Feb. 17-21): Bidding ends Jan. 24, sign-ups start Feb. 7
    • Session 3 (interviews Feb. 24-28): Bidding ends Jan. 31, sign-ups start Feb. 14
    • Session 4 (interviews Mar. 3-7): Bidding ends Feb. 7, sign-ups start Feb. 21
    • Session 5 (interviews Mar. 27-21): Bidding ends Feb. 24, sign-ups start Mar. 7
  • If you miss a deadline for a particular session, you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO APPLY to that firm or agency.  Also, you will be responsible for checking the schedule on a regular basis.
  • Once the bidding deadline has passed, employers will have a short period of time to select applicants they wish to interview.  You will be notified via email when selections have been made, and you will have a few days to sign up for an interview spot through Symplicity.
  • Throughout the entire OCI period, it is important that you check your email regularly for notifications from Symplicity and the CDO.  If you are applying through OCI and are going out of town, or if you will be away from email longer than 24 hours, please notify Kate Busch (or someone in the CDO) of your absence and provide a good phone number for emergency notifications. We don’t want you to miss out on something because you didn’t check your email.  You never know when you will receive an alternate interview position, an interview schedule changes, etc.
  • Please feel free to contact Kate or anyone in the CDO with any questions about OCI schedules, applications, process, hiring criteria, etc.
  • Good luck and happy bidding!
