As a known expert on legal ethics, Prof. Larry Dessem was recently quoted in an article by The Clarion Ledger in Jackson, Miss., regarding an attorney’s ethical obligations in the legal profession. The article focused on an alleged conflict of interest involving a Jackson law firm, the Jackson Redevelopment Association, and a major redevelopment project redevelopment project for downtown Jackson.
Prof. Dessem commented on the key legal principle that was protected by placing attorney conflict of interest rules for attorneys to abide by within the legal profession. He was quoted as follows: “One of the primary duties of any lawyer is loyalty to his client. You owe that duty first and foremost.”
Prof. Dessem teaches Professional Responsibility to Mizzou Law students during the spring 2014 semester.
