The Columbia Morning with David Lile radio show recently interviewed Angela Drake, director of the law school’s Veterans Clinic. During the interview, she discussed the work of the eight second-and-third-year students involved in the clinic each semester who help veterans with their Veterans Administration (VA) disability claims.

Professor Drake says the clinic has a wide range of veteran clients including World War II, Vietnam, Afghanistan as well as peace time veterans. The students who participate in the clinic learn about American history through their interactions with the veterans. Drake discussed the types of disability cases they take on and how they deal with the VA. The students have opportunities to travel to Washington, D.C., to argue their cases and leave the clinic with more passion for these issues.

“There’s nothing better for a student than having a real client who’s deserving and has real issues,” Professor Drake said in the interview. “It’s a wonderful opportunity.”
