Prof. Paul Litton

Associate Dean Paul Litton has travelled twice recently to discuss his works-in-progress. He presented two papers at the University of Mississippi School of Law.

First, he presented “Physiological versus Experiential Scientific Explanations of Criminal Behavior: Is Either Relevant to Desert?” Then, with a small group, he workshopped empirical research he is conducting with Philip Robbins, a professor in the MU Department of Philosophy. Dean Litton and Professor Robbins are researching the extent to which causal explanations of criminal conduct (e.g., genes, violent upbringing) affect people’s intuitions about blame and appropriate punishment.

They jointly presented their research earlier this fall at the University of Buffalo’s annual conference on experimental philosophy.
