November 21st, 2017

Hulston Hall

In October 2019, the University of Missouri and the Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution will act as hosts of the 2019 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL).  ASCL is the leading organization in the United States promoting the comparative study of law and is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies and International Association of Legal Science.

The theme of the meeting is “Comparative Law and International Dispute Resolution Processes,” a topic that will take advantage of the law school’s expertise in dispute resolution.  The program seeks to delve more deeply into how comparative law operates formally and informally, visibly and invisibly, publicly and privately, in cases involving cross-border legal disputes, and panelists will discuss a variety of dispute resolution processes, including litigation, arbitration, mediation, conciliation and negotiation.

The event is expected to include several ancillary events, such as an associated works-in-progress conference and international student writing competition on comparative law and international dispute resolution processes.

Papers from the annual meeting will be published in the law school’s Journal of Dispute ResolutionOrganization of the event is ongoing, and those interested in learning more should contact Professor S.I. Strong.
