Political Science & Economics

Hello! My name is Alec Guy, and I am a 2L here at Mizzou. I am originally from St. Joseph, a mid-sized town in northwest Missouri. I received my undergraduate degree from Missouri Western State University, a small institution located in St. Joseph. I double majored in political science and economics, with a minor in peace and conflict studies. My mother is a lawyer, and I always had interest in the field.

During my time at Missouri Western, I explored other options, but ultimately decided I wanted to attend law school. After that realization, I interned at the Buchanan County Prosecutor’s Office, and I was sold. Seeing the inner workings of the law was fascinating. I knew that was what I wanted to pursue. Before starting my internship I had taken the LSAT, but I decided to try again to get a better score. This worked out, and I began applying for a few schools. I wanted to stay in Missouri to be close to my family, so I only focused on schools in the state.

During the application process, I researched Mizzou heavily and spoke with the admissions office. I knew it was a great program, plus going to the University of Missouri had always been a dream of mine. I have been a fan of the University for as long as I can remember. That, coupled with the outstanding program sold me on the school.

In early June, after my decision had been made, I decided to visit the school. This completely affirmed that I had made the correct choice. The campus and the law school building are beautiful, the faculty are available since there is a great faculty to student ratio, there is a tight knit community due to the size of the school, Columbia is an amazing town, and so much more.

I highly recommend Mizzou Law; it truly is an amazing school. I know the application process can be stressful and difficult at times, so if you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me. I wish you luck in your law school preparations, and I hope to see you here next fall!
