Hi! My name is Jess. I am a first-generation student from Long Grove, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago, but I have lived in Columbia since 2012. I am a second-year student at Mizzou Law. I graduated from the MU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I am interested primarily in corporate, business, and international law, but so far, my classes have only expanded those interests.

Law school has always been on my radar, but even so, I decided to take a gap year after graduation to work in the legal field. It opened up so many doors for me that I would not have done any other way. With the support of my family and friends, I was able to begin this year.

I applied to many schools for a variety of the reasons, but when I weighed the pros and cons of each school, Mizzou was nothing short of my best option; I knew the campus and the town pretty well, I felt well established in the community, and most importantly, I felt welcome by MU Law students and staff that I knew. I figured that I would have an easier time transitioning into law school by enrolling on the same campus where I completed my undergraduate degree. So far, it has been.

I am a big believer in the common saying “work hard, play hard.” By that, I mean that it is important to have a good balance between hard work and fun. School is hard and it requires many hours of work, so I maintain a balance by allowing time for different activities. Outside of schoolwork, I like to explore the town for all Columbia has to offer. My favorite things to do include, hitting the trails, eating at the different restaurants, and attending the social and cultural events that town puts on. I am happy to be in Columbia and I look forward to the next couple of years.
