Hello, my name is Joe Shetler and I am just starting my new professional journey as a 1L here at Mizzou Law.  I am a non-traditional student to say the least, with a varied academic and professional background that took me through considerations of being a professor, a priest, a financial advisor, and now finally at the age of 38 I am very happy to be immersed in my law studies at the University of Missouri.

My wife, Virginia, and I live in Jefferson City.  I would love to speak with any prospective applicant considering Mizzou Law, especially with any older or married man or woman who is thinking about the big step of returning to school after a break, and maybe after some experience in the “real world.”  I should say, though, that listening to any of us speak about it will not be enough; you should come and see for yourself.  Our law school is truly something special, a place of support and encouragement, where the professors and students work together to help all succeed.  It is simply a different environment, a different atmosphere than other academic settings, and you should make the visit to come experience it yourself.

For the past six years I have been working with a small estate planning firm that advises farmers and small, family business owners.  I look forward to returning to them in a few years as their attorney, and I know that when I do I will have gained not only a keen knowledge from Mizzou Law about how to think and work as a lawyer, but, just as importantly, I will have found my place in a wide and powerful network of amazing, friendly, resourceful, committed alumni.  When you join Mizzou Law you join a team.

If you have been thinking about law school as your next step, you owe it to yourself to come see what the University of Missouri has to offer.
