Recent Graduate’s Law School Journey Featured in Local Paper

June 9th, 2015

Recent Mizzou Law graduate LaTonya Marshall’s long journey through the pursuit of her undergraduate and law school degrees, which she started in 2010, was featured recently in her local newspaper, the Sedalia Democrat.

When Marshall graduated from the School of Law in May, her walk across the stage signaled that her commute to Columbia from Sedalia, Mo., was finally over. Marshall lives in Sedalia with her four sons and decided to commute to law school at Mizzou instead of moving her sons away from their hometown.

Marshall is a single mother who has had to balance her sons’ sports games and school work with her own homework, studying and unconventional jobs to make ends meet. “My children have inspired me to do everything I have done, to become what I am,” she says. Marshall graduated from law school on the same day her oldest son, Keyaire, graduated from high school. Her determination and drive to succeed has shown her sons that anything is possible if they work hard and don’t give up.

Marshall’s story is also featured in the Spring 2015 issue of the law school’s alumni magazine, Transcript.
