National Institutes of Health-Funded Project to Include Prof. Lietzan

Professor Erika Lietzan was recently invited to participate in a multidisciplinary working group in an National Institutes of Health-funded project, “Microbiota Transplantation: Recommendations for a Regulatory Framework.”

The investigators who received the funding for the project are located at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and come from the School of Pharmacy, the School of Medicine and the Carey School of Law. Professor Lietzan will join a team of 20-25 scientists, clinicians, representatives of professional associations and patient groups, bioethicists, government regulators, academics, lawyers and biotechnology industry representatives.

The goal of the project is to evaluate regulatory options for microbiota transplantation and, more specifically, analyze the degree to which existing regulatory schemes are most conducive to ensuring that microbiota transplantation is accessible, safe and effective.
