The School of Law will partner with the MU Family Impact Center to provide free estate planning services to residents from Boone County, Mo., and surrounding areas this fall through the new Mizzou Law Pro Bono Estate Planning Program.

Ten current Mizzou Law students, under the supervision of Adjunct Associate Professor Cynthia Barchet, a local practitioner, will meet with potential clients who seek estate planning services on the evenings of October 10, 11 and 12. Students will prepare simple wills, durable powers of attorney for health care, durable powers of attorney for finances, and living wills or health care directives. All services will be free of charge.

Those interested in participating in the program should contact Jennifer Riedy Clark, director of public interest programs at the School of Law, at 573-882-0940, or the Family Impact Center at 573-882-2428, to complete an application. Selected applicants will be contacted to set up an appointment.

The individual consultations and document preparation offer estate planning information and services to area residents while also assisting law students in gaining and honing their legal skills, as well as exposing them to the importance of pro bono work.

The School of Law has partnered with Legal Services of Southern Missouri to offer similar programs in Salem and Rolla during spring break in the past.
