Dean Lidsky Comments on Minnesota Company’s Lawsuit to Expose an Online Critic

April 26th, 2018

Air T, a St. Louis Park, Minn., holding company, is seeking court approval to obtain  information from Yahoo and other internet providers to learn the identity of one of its online critics. A Minneapolis Star Tribune article, “Air T files lawsuit locally to expose ID of online critic,” quotes Dean Lyrissa Lidsky.

“Social media is not a free-for-all,” says Dean Lidsky. “You need to be careful that you are not defaming others. Even if you are just expressing your opinion, it doesn’t guarantee you won’t get sued — which is a really frightening thought for a lot of people of modest means who use social media to communicate.” Dean Lidsky has been studying internet privacy issues since 1999.
