The selection committee for the University of Missouri School of Law Pay-It-Forward stipend has announced the 2019 recipients. Awards will be made to Rebecca Charles and Marissa Price.
These women have demonstrated their substantial commitment to public service law. The committee chose Charles and Price for their interest and dedication to pursuing opportunities in the public sector.
Charles will be working with the Missouri State Public Defender Office and Price will be working in the Audrain County Prosecutor’s Office in Mexico, Mo.
This stipend will help me pursue my dream of working in public service as a Public Defender, Charles said.
“I will continue to do this work after graduation,” she said. “The ability to have less debt as a result of this reward will reduce the burden, I incur due to my choice to work in positions that are less lucrative than the private sector.”
Price said this award is aiding her in learning more about her passions while being able to give back to the community.
“Easing the financial burden on an unpaid internship allows for me to be 100 percent focused on learning how to practice the law,” she said. “My experience in Audrain County this summer will be the building blocks to accomplishing my dream of changing the world through ethical lawyering.”
Both students encourage their peers to apply for the stipend in the future.
