Professor David English was elected chair-elect of the 23,000-member American Bar Association Section of Real Property Trust and Estate Law, with his appointment to take effect on September 1.
Professor English, who will serve as chair-elect for a year, will automatically become chair of the section on September 1, 2018. He will be the first law professor to chair the section since 1980.
As chair-elect, Professor English will be responsible for supervising the section’s 20 standing committees and task forces, will chair the section’s Planning Committee, and will be responsible for all section appointments.
Professor English, who has been active in the section since 1987, has held numerous section positions, including vice chair in charge of the Trust and Estate Division, chair of the Diversity and Community Outreach Committees, section representative to the ABA House of Delegates, and member of the Supervisory Council with responsibility for the Elder Law and Special Needs Planning Group.
