On January 25, Professor Carl H. Esbeck spoke twice to 16 teams of students competing at the Moot Court Championship finals hosted by the University of Houston Law Center. He spoke on the Religion Clauses of the First Amendment and the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia, Inc. v. Comer, a case that originated in Columbia, Mo. That evening and the next day the teams competed over a problem asking whether FEMA, in responding to Houston flooding for Hurricane Harvey, should provide monetary assistance to local churches damaged in the flooding.
