Professor Wilson Freyermuth was inducted as a new Fellow of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers at its annual meeting in New Orleans on April 8.

The American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers is a professional organization dedicated to promoting the field of commercial finance law through education, legislative reform and the recognition of distinguished practitioners, jurists and academics. The College offers a venue to promote and recognize outstanding achievement and advances in the field of commercial finance law. Since its founding in 1991, the College has inducted roughly 300 preeminent practitioners and scholars as Fellows and has firmly established itself as a learned, active and influential participant in the field of commercial finance law.

The College annually gives an award, the Grant Gilmore Award, for the best scholarly work in the area of commercial finance by a young scholar. Professor Freyermuth was the first recipient of the Grant Gilmore Award in 1993-1994 for his article, “Of Rents, Hotel Revenues, and Formalism in the Bankruptcy Courts: Implications for Reforming Commercial Real Estate Finance,” 40 UCLA L. Rev. 1461 (1993).

He was inducted as a Fellow based on his scholarship in the real estate finance field (including his co-authorship of the leading Nelson/Whitman Real Estate Finance Law treatise), his law reform service as Reporter for the Uniform Commercial Real Estate Receivership Act (2015) and the Uniform Assignment of Rents Act (2004), as well as his service as the executive director of the Joint Editorial for Uniform Real Property Acts (since 2005).
