In late March, Professor Amy J. Schmitz will speak on the “Dangers of Digitizing Due Process” at the University of Montreal. This presentation is in conjunction with its LexUM Chair on Legal Information and its Cyberjustice Laboratory “Tech criticism of Tech products” Lecture Series.
Professor Schmitz will explain how technology is transforming legal services and access to justice in positive, and potentially negative, ways. She will describe the current movement toward e-courts and technologically streamlined court procedures, as well as use of AI and algorithms for deciding cases and remedies. At the same time, she will raise concerns and uncover problematic consequences of our current rush to digitize.
