Professor Schmitz Participates in International Online Courts Workshop

Professor Amy J. Schmitz recently participated in a high-level Expert Stakeholder Workshop, “Measuring Success in Online Courts: An Empirical Challenge.” This invite-only event was organized by University College London Faculty of Laws and the Legal Education Foundation in London, U.K.

The workshop brought together leading international figures from the judiciary, academia, policy and civil society to explore how we might measure whether online courts promote the correct application of substantive law and deliver improved access to justice. For her part, Professor Schmitz added insights based on her over ten years analyzing technology in the courts and dispute resolution more broadly. This included ideas about how to best craft online courts with an aim toward expanding access to remedies, while also providing cost-savings.
