Professor Amy J. Schmitz presented on “ODR in the Courts” at the American Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN, on April 12.
Professor Schmitz explained the new online mechanisms being used in the courts for a variety of less complex cases. Her talk explored new “e-courts” that essentially move traditional judicial processes into the “virtual” world of the internet.
As part of the annual meeting, Professor Schmitz also co-chaired the Technology Committee and helped spearhead a new ODR Task Force to create ethical standards for these court ODR programs. She wants to be sure that we do not “rush” to digitize in the interest of efficiency to the detriment of due process.
