About Ashley Broadstone
Hello! My name is Ashley Broadstone, and I am a 2L at Mizzou Law. I grew up in Washington, Illinois, a great hometown right outside of Peoria, Illinois. I studied Paralegal Studies at Illinois Central College and transferred to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale to complete my undergraduate degree with a minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
I have wanted to pursue a career in law since 8th grade but being a first-generation college student created some hardship and delays along the way. After graduating from SIU in 2016, I spent 3 years working as a paralegal at an insurance defense law firm in Peoria. I LOVED my job, but I knew that I wanted more challenges and opportunities so it became time to finally pursue my dream of being an attorney.
The process of selecting a law school was very hard for me. The closest school in my hometown was more than one-and-a-half hours away. There was a lot of struggle between whether I wanted to commute or move my family to a new town entirely. I visited each school I had been accepted to and that was my deciding factor in choosing Mizzou Law, even though it was the biggest life change for my husband and me! The environment here at Mizzou Law is truly the best of both worlds. It’s challenging and competitive but full of collaboration. Small but full of opportunities. The professors take the time to get to know you and invest in you and your future, you aren’t just a statistic. Law school is not easy, but when you are a part of the Mizzou Law community, you are always motivated to be your best self – in and out of the classroom.
Asking questions and taking the time to visit schools is key in deciding where you want to spend your three years of law school. Thanks to those who allowed me to pester them, I am here at Mizzou Law and enjoying every minute of it. Please don’t hesitate to send me an email – I’d love to help you weigh your options and give you more insight into the opportunities awaiting at Mizzou Law!
