About Cynthia Bassett

Cynthia Bassett is the Director of the University of Missouri School of Law Library. She has been a law librarian at the Law School since 2007. She started her career at Mizzou Law as the Electronic Services Librarian where she specialized in helping law students find and use electronic resources. She also created the school’s Scholarship Repository, which hosts faculty scholarship, student journal archives, and online special collections. 

Cynthia teaches Lawyering, a course on professionalism, client counseling and interviewing, and methods of dispute resolution. She also teaches Advanced Legal Research to second and third-year students. Cynthia guest lectures on a variety of legal research topics including medical research for lawyers and legislative research. She writes and presents on a variety of library-related topics, including succession planning, personnel management, and using library collections for educational purposes.

Professionally, Cynthia has served both regionally and nationally in law library organizations. She served as President of the Mid-America Association of Law Libraries (MAALL) and as member-at-large. Nationally, she has served as the Chair of the Legal Innovation and Technology SIS of AALL. She is currently Secretary for the Mid-America Law Library Consortium, participates on the AALL/Bloomberg Law Award Jury for AALL, and chairs the Law School Library Committee and serves as a member of the Law School’s One Read committee.
