Student Leader Highlight: Lindsey Wilkerson

2021 JD candidate Lindsey Wilkerson grew up in Rogersville, Missouri before she first began at Mizzou as an undergraduate. During her first year of studying journalism with an emphasis on radio/TV anchoring and reporting, Wilkerson was accepted into the MU Law Scholars program which allows selected students to complete their bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate degrees in 6 years at MU.

Wilkerson says that the best part of her Mizzou Law experience has been that she has met life-long friends and has “always been supported and encouraged by the faculty and staff through academics and leadership opportunities in the law school.”

Although Wilkerson says she enjoys learning about a wide variety of fields of law to get a well-rounded perspective, she says that at the moment she is most interested in criminal or First Amendment law. This summer, in addition to taking classes, she will be getting hands-on experience with the Missouri Attorney Generals’ Office in Jefferson City and Springfield.

“I consider my mother and my late grandmothers to be my mentors,” Wilkerson said. “My mom started her own small business, a medical sales recruiting firm, in Springfield when I was first born, and the business is still going strong! Additionally, my grandmothers were both strong, bold, enthusiastic women throughout their lives. They always encouraged me to work hard and dream big.”

In her free time, Wilkerson enjoys going to the gym, watching makeup tutorials, and reading fiction books.
