Visiting Professor
The University of Missouri School of Law seeks to hire one or more visiting professors (assistant, associate, or full professor level) for one or two semesters during the 2022-23 academic year. A J.D. is required. We are especially interested in excellent teachers with experience in (1) doctrinal classes, such as criminal law, criminal procedure, evidence, professional responsibility, contracts, torts, and other fundamental courses, and/or (2) lawyering-skills classes, such as pretrial litigation, trial practice, appellate advocacy, and transactional skills courses.

Visiting Associate Professor for Legal Research & Writing; Advocacy & Research

The University of Missouri School of Law is seeking a Visiting Associate Professor to teach in the 1L legal research and writing program (LRW) for the 2022-2023 academic year which begins in August 2022 and ends in May 2023. The 1L LRW program is a six-credit, two-semester, graded course sequence (three credits each semester), including Legal Research & Writing in the fall and Advocacy & Research in the spring.

Course Details: 

Legal Research & Writing is a 3-credit course taught in the fall of the 1L year that focuses on legal research, writing, logic, and analysis skills. Emphasis is placed on communicating/predicting legal analysis using legal logic. The course meets twice a week for 75 minutes.

Advocacy & Research is a 3-credit course taught in the spring of the 1L year that focuses on persuasive writing, legal analysis, oral advocacy, and research techniques. Emphasis is placed on using multiple sources of law to analyze, evaluate, and apply the law. Students draft persuasive written and oral arguments. The course meets twice a week for 75 minutes.

Position Details: The individual will be hired to teach four courses for the 2022-2023 academic year (two courses per semester).  The individual will be expected to participate in 1L orientation (during August 2022), attend weekly team meetings, be available to students, give detailed feedback, and submit grades.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a J.D. from an accredited law school, and preference will be given to candidates with a strong academic record, excellent legal research and writing skills, and experience in the practice of law. The ideal candidate would also have experience teaching legal research and writing. Appellate practice or other law practice in Missouri is valued. We seek a candidate who is passionate and reflective about teaching, dedicated to student learning, and will work collaboratively with other LRW faculty.
