It’s graduation week at Mizzou Law, and while we are celebrating all of our amazing graduating 3Ls, we are highlighting a few students who have lined up amazing first jobs out of law school! Today, we meet Joseph Link.

What will you be doing once you finish graduation and take the Bar?

I will be practicing estate planning at Lewis Rice in downtown St. Louis.

How do you feel Mizzou Law has prepared you to begin your career in the legal field?

Mizzou Law has given me the practical experience via the Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic, Board of Advocates competitions, and Tax and Transactional Law Society competitions to begin my career ahead of most law students graduating. I have had a full course load of doctrine to learn, but I also have been given the opportunity to do real-world research, drafting, and counseling. Another great thing about Mizzou Law is there are plenty of organizations to help out with, and being the president of TTLS was one of the most impactful things on my career here at Mizzou.

Can you name one or two faculty who have really made a difference in your law school experience?

Professor Royce Barondes was a great influence my 1L year. He was an amazing professor who cared about each student’s success and understanding of the material—so much so that he literally wrote two books just for our contracts class (one for each semester). Another professor I had throughout my law school career was Professor Shores-Pelikan. She was my tax professor each semester, starting 2L year, and she took me from a place of zero tax knowledge to a place where now I know what the tax consequences are of a §338(h)(10) election! She is an excellent professor, and the class really benefits from her expertise in the field!

What is the one thing you’ll miss most about Mizzou Law once you leave?

The thing I will miss the most is the free meals! I have been at probably 90% of events that the Career Development Office put on as well as other organizations that offer a free lunch at the 1 p.m. period. It has been a saving grace of getting through law school not having to worry most days what I am going to pack for lunch. It is also a great time to learn about different practices of law from a large network of attorneys.
