Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci announced that Mark Moody, Special Counsel to the District Attorney, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Robert M. Morgenthau Award by the District Attorneys Association of the State of New York (DAASNY).
Established in 2009, the Morgenthau Award honors one Assistant District Attorney from each of four regions across New York State. Named for Robert M. Morgenthau, the legendary New York County District Attorney, the award recognizes prosecutors who exemplify exceptional professional achievement, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to the fair and ethical administration of justice—hallmarks of Morgenthau’s 34-year tenure.
District Attorney Antonacci said, “The Robert M. Morgenthau Award goes beyond recognizing individual professional achievement; it embodies the highest ideals of public service. Mark’s 25-year career reflects exactly what this award stands for: unwavering dedication to public service and a steadfast commitment to doing the right thing. He has prosecuted some of the most serious and complex cases our system confronts, and his commitment to ethical prosecution, fairness, and public safety mirrors the very principles Robert Morgenthau championed.”
Moody began his prosecutorial career in 1997 with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office before joining the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office in 1998. In 2008, he moved to the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office, where he was appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney in 2012 and later served as Acting District Attorney in late 2023. In 2024, Moody brought his extensive experience and leadership to Cayuga County, where he now serves as Special Counsel to the District Attorney. In this role, he handles major offense and violent felony cases and provides legal guidance to the office. Throughout his career, his leadership and mentorship have helped shape generations of prosecutors.
Moody said, “I am truly honored and humbled to have received this award. In my time as a prosecutor, I have tried to be guided by the principle that my job is to do the right thing. Victims, law enforcement, the general public, all deserve prosecutors who are doing their job ethically, honestly, fairly, and zealously. I have aspired in my career to do exactly that, and I’d like to believe I have generally succeeded.”
