Since 1872, Mizzou Law has prepared future members of the legal profession for practice in all types of legal settings. Private philanthropy enables Mizzou Law to offer student scholarships and academic programs that would otherwise be unavailable.

Your gifts support student scholarships, faculty research, the Law Library, the Law School Foundation Endowment and variety of special projects. These gifts have allowed the law school to attract talented students, make law school more affordable, attract and retain outstanding teachers and scholars, and make improvements to Hulston Hall that directly affect the student experience.

Ways to Give

The Mizzou family has been crowdfunding since 900 Boone County citizens pooled their resources to establish the University of Missouri in 1839. More than 185 years later, alumni and friends continue this tradition of philanthropic partnership through Mizzou Give Direct, MU’s crowdfunding website.

Dean’s Giving Priorities

The University of Missouri wants the best and brightest students to study at Mizzou Law. In order to attract those students, we must increase the number and size of our scholarship offerings. A large scholarship endowment will enable us to offer enhanced tuition assistance to high-achieving applicants.

Support Our Students

The Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic helps veterans and their families secure disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Law students under the direction of Professor Brent Filbert staff this free clinic. Student work is done at all claim levels, and experienced faculty and attorneys supervise students at each step. The clinic course includes a weekly lecture on the substantive law relating to veterans’ benefits, followed by work with actual veteran files. Students learn a host of practical skills, including law firm management, client interviewing and counseling, problem solving, legal theory development, negotiation, data collection, witness statements, medical record analysis, appellate brief writing and argument.

The Mizzou Law Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic (ELC) is a program designed to provide legal assistance and support to entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the state of Missouri.  The clinic is staffed by law students under the supervision of the experienced clinic director.  The primary goal is to offer practical legal experience to law students while simultaneously offering valuable legal services to local entrepreneurs.

The Clinic is directed by faculty attorney Professor Danielle Dodd, who supervises Rule 13 certified 2nd and 3rd year law students. Under Professor Dodd’s supervision, students engage  and assist in all aspects of a client’s representation, from providing advice and counseling, to appearing in court on the client’s behalf.

The Criminal Practice Clinic (CLC) is a hybrid live-client clinical program. It consists of hands-on practical experience through a field placement in a local public defender or prosecutor office supervised by Clinic faculty, along with a weekly classroom component and faculty assistance preparing for court appearances and providing substantive feedback.

The Clinic is designed to promote development of basic lawyering skills essential to effective criminal practice.

The University of Missouri wants to attract the best teachers and scholars to serve on the Mizzou Law faculty. In order to attract and retain those top-flight faculty, we must increase the endowment to support their research. A large faculty development fund will enable us to offer research stipends and other faculty development resources.
