About Claire Heigel, 2L
Hello! My name is Claire Hiegel. I am from Little Rock, Arkansas. I graduated from Saint Louis University in May 2023 with a degree in political science and a minor in international business.
When I was applying to law school, my main priorities were being close to family and choosing a school that was financially feasible. I expected to decide between schools in Arkansas near my hometown and in St. Louis, which was my home at the time, as I anticipated that these schools would be the most practical options for me. In fact, I almost chose not to apply to Mizzou, as I had no connection to Mizzou or Columbia. However, after hearing a very positive report from a Mizzou Law alumna, I decided to apply. When I received my acceptance, I began to really consider Mizzou.
The final deciding factor for me was my visit to campus. I was able to shadow a first-year class and talk to a few current Mizzou Law students of different years. My visit was so helpful because it allowed me to see that not only was Mizzou a financially practical option, but the community at the law school seemed unique.
I was very impressed with the friendly and supportive atmosphere despite knowing of the typical struggles that students often experience during law school. I think a big part of what makes the community as strong as it at Mizzou is the resources that the school offers to support the students. The organizations at Mizzou Law dedicated to social activities and fostering community among the students as well as the organizations designed to support and encourage learning convinced me that Mizzou would be my best choice for law school. I am very excited to share my experience at Mizzou with prospective students and answer any questions you may have!
