Mizzou Law teams finish first and second in national moot court competition

Mizzou Law 3Ls Andy Krokstrom, Andrew Meyer, and Jessica Schmitz won the national Global Antitrust Institute Moot Court Competition the last weekend on Feb. 27. Taking second place and edging out teams from elite law schools such as Harvard, Virginia, Duke, and Indiana, was another Mizzou Law team consisting of Tate Cooper, Andrew Guinan and Noelle Mack. The Global Antitrust Institute Invitational is the only moot court competition in the United States devoted exclusively to antitrust law and offers a unique opportunity for invited law schools.

Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic Student Worker Gets Mizzou Employee Shout-Out

Ethan Attebery, 1L and student assistant in the Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic, received a student employee shout-out from the Mizzou Career Center. Nominated by Eugene O’Loughlin: “Ethan is a first year law school student that has modified Clinic class PowerPoints and CLEs to all be uniform, developed a system to capture all contacts to ensure accurate reporting to donors, runs weekly reports to monitor productivity, and completes any task flawlessly.” Congrats, Ethan!

Mizzou Law student highlighted by American Constitution Society

Hirsh M. Joshi, a 2L at Mizzou Law, was highlighted today by the American Constitution Society (ACS). In the online spotlight, Joshi spoke of his time at Mizzou Law and his passion for protecting the American democratic process: “During my 1L year, my Torts and Criminal Law professor said something that continues to inspire me; while reflecting on a case, he spoke about “the disconnect between the law and reality.” My Chapter’s goal through programming is to make that disconnect obvious, and my personal goal in my career is to get rid of that disconnect. When Mackenzie Stout was nearing the end of her undergraduate degree in 2019, she had a decision to make. Did she want to follow in her family’s footsteps or cut her own path? As a senior at the University of Missouri, she had already completed one family tradition: attend Mizzou. Both of Mackenzie’s parents and her older sister had earned undergraduate degrees from Mizzou and with Mackenzie’s graduation from the MU Trulaske College of Business almost complete, she needed to decide what her next step would be. Mizzou Law Welcomes First Majority Female Class in History, Largest Class Since 2010

As classes begin, Mizzou Law is excited and proud to welcome the incoming 1L class of 2024 to campus. This class of amazing students and future successful lawyers is historic in many ways. For the first time in the history of the MU School of Law, the incoming class is majority female, with 51% of the 2024 cohort identifying as women. Class of 2021 honored on May 16

The Mizzou Law Class of 2021 participated in an in-person ceremony at the Hearnes Center on Sunday, May 16. Though the venue was a stark change from Jesse Auditorium, and social distancing eliminated the usual hooding ceremony, the enthusiasm of the graduates and their family and friends in the seats was not deterred. Congratulations to our newest Mizzou Law alumni! The ceremony was livestreamed and is available for viewing online.

17th Annual TH5K set for April 17

The 17th annual Tim Heinsz 5K, 10K & Jim Devine Dog Walk & Bob Bailey Bike Ride is set for Saturday, April 17 at Twin Lakes Recreation Area in Columbia. This event celebrates the extraordinary impact these three men have had on students at Mizzou Law and across campus. It will be held rain or shine. The event includes a variety of categories for participants: a competitive 5K/10K run, a “just for fun” 5K/10K run or walk, a 15K bike ride, a leisurely dog walk, and a kids fun run. Three Mizzou Law students honored among the Mizzou 18

On March 2 the University of Missouri Alumni Association announced the student recipients of its Mizzou 18 award. These awards honor Mizzou graduate students in the last year of their degree eligibility and represent students from a variety of disciplines across campus. They are chosen for their world-class research, collaboration with faculty and staff, and their demonstrated leadership with undergraduate students. Two Mizzou Law students compete as finalists in MU’s Idea Quest

Two Mizzou Law students placed in the top 9 of Mizzou’s new student competition, Idea Quest, last November. Georgi Gnibus, 1L, and Matthew Pathiyil, 3L, developed an elevator pitch and presented their ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs to compete for $10,000 in seed funding.  Idea Quest (IQ) is sponsored by Veterans United Home Loans and is one of the several programs now offered through the Innovators Nexus at the MU Student Center.
