About Charles Eric Hintz

Professor Hintz is an associate professor of law.  His research focuses on criminal procedure and post-conviction review, and the intersection between criminal and civil procedure.  His scholarship has appeared in the Penn State Law Review, the Seton Hall Law Review, and the U.C. Davis Law Review Online.

Prior to joining Mizzou Law, Professor Hintz represented clients in criminal appellate, post-conviction, and civil litigation matters at Shapiro Arato Bach LLP, a New York litigation boutique, and he continues to support the firm’s clients in an Of Counsel capacity.  Eric has also taught federal habeas corpus at Penn Law, worked as an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, and served as a research fellow at Penn Law’s Quattrone Center for the Fair Administration of Justice.  He clerked for Judge Kent A. Jordan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and Judge Robert E. Payne of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. 

Professor Hintz received his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif and served as a notes editor on the Virginia Law Review.  Before law school, he also received a master’s degree in global security studies, summa cum laude, from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Emory University.
