David Fischer

About David Fischer

Professor Fischer joined the law faculty in 1972. While in law school he was the Lead Article Editor of the Missouri Law Review, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He served as a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Army from 1968-72, where he handled general court-martial cases on both the trial and appellate levels.

He has been a Visiting Professor at Vanderbilt University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Oklahoma. In the fall of 1999 he was a Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall in Cambridge, England, and was elected a Life Member. In the spring of 2003 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia.

Professor Fischer is a co-author of a nationally used products liability casebook. He has published articles dealing with a full range of issues in Tort and Products Liability law, including the meaning of defect, comparative fault, market share liability, proportional liability, and causation.

Professor Fischer is a member of the American Law Institute. He served as Chair of the Tort Liability Study Committee of the Torts and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) of the ABA, Vice-Chair of the Products, General Liability & Consumer Law Committee of TIPS, and Chair of the Academic Advisory Subcommittee of the Products, General Liability & Consumer Law Committee of TIPS. He teaches Torts, Products Liability, and Evidence.

He retired from MU in the summer of 2007. He subsequently taught as a Visiting Professor at Brooklyn Law School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the University of Notre Dame Law School.
