Professor Cecil joined the faculty in 1989 after serving as an associate with the law firms of Isham, Lincoln & Beale, and Sidley & Austin in Chicago, where she worked in litigation and tax and employee benefits.
While in law school she was a writing competition note and comment editor of the Illinois Law Review. Professor Cecil has received seven teaching awards, including the William T. Kemper Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching and the Gold Chalk Award. She is also a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor.
She publishes in the area of bankruptcy taxation. Professor Cecil’s articles have appeared in a number of prestigious law reviews, including the Minnesota Law Review, the Wisconsin Law Review, and the Illinois Law Review.
Before retiring, she taught Basic Federal Income Taxation, Bankruptcy, Corporate Tax, International Tax, Tax Research, and Taxation of Property Transactions.
