Two Mizzou Law students compete as finalists in MU’s Idea Quest

Two Mizzou Law students placed in the top 9 of Mizzou’s new student competition, Idea Quest, last November. Georgi Gnibus, 1L, and Matthew Pathiyil, 3L, developed an elevator pitch and presented their ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs to compete for $10,000 in seed funding.  Idea Quest (IQ) is sponsored by Veterans United Home Loans and is one of the several programs now offered through the Innovators Nexus at the MU Student Center. Ben Trachtenberg appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Dean Lyrissa Lidsky has appointed Professor Ben Trachtenberg, Isidor Loeb Professor of Law, as associate dean for academic affairs at Mizzou Law effective January 1. Trachtenberg replaces Professor S. David Mitchell, Ruth L. Hulston Professor of Law, who recently became one of the two inaugural co-directors of the Michael A. Middleton Center for Race, Citizenship & Justice at Mizzou. Mitchell had served as associate dean since 2015. Professor Trachtenberg joined the law faculty in 2010. Featured LLM Alumnus: Brian Jarrett

After practicing law in British Columbia for eight years, Brian Jarrett, PhD, became interested in the fields of mediation and arbitration. Wanting to learn more about dispute resolution, Jarrett enrolled in the LLM in Dispute Resolution degree program at Mizzou Law. “I chose Mizzou Law for the professors in the LLM program,” Jarrett said. “The professors were both researchers and practitioners. Paula Marie Young had been practicing law since 1982 before she came to Mizzou Law in 2001 to get her LLM. Cynthia Alkon, LLM ’02, is a Professor of Law and the Director of the Criminal Law, Justice, and Policy Program at Texas A&M University School of Law.
