Professor Dennis Crouch recently delivered the keynote address at the 41st Annual Fall Institute on Intellectual Property Law, co-sponsored by the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association (HIPLA) and the University of Houston Law Center.
His keynote, titled “Intellectual Property Rights under President Trump (2025),” explored the sweeping changes to U.S. patent and copyright policy since President Trump’s inauguration earlier this year. Professor Crouch discussed the heightened politicization of the USPTO and Copyright Office, the administration’s promotion of AI-driven innovation, and the renewed emphasis on patent-holder rights across key federal agencies.
A nationally recognized scholar of patent law and editor of the widely read Patently-O blog, Professor Crouch offered historical and policy context for these developments, connecting them to broader trends in administrative power and international innovation policy.
